Interview: Manticore
This is the interview with Ixitichitl Bass and Vocals of Manticore.
1. First of all can you tell us a little about the band name and bio?
-Hails. A Manticore is a beast with the body of a lion, the face of a man, and the tail of a scorpion, we thought that conveyed our music and message perfectly. We formed in 99, when Satanael and I (Ixitichitl) finally found the time to bring together some ideas we had had since 95 or so, while writing the Ritual Cleansing of the Whore demo, we hooked up with the Maggot Wrangler, and Manticore was born. After playing shows in Europe in 02 with Black Witchery, Avenger, Krieg, and Armagedda, we returned home to release Bowels of the Holy Annoint Us in Evil. Playing some shows and writing we then released For Rats and Plague at which point Ixitichitl took a 3 year break due to family obligations and was replaced by Duaniac. In Oct 07 Ixitichitl returned at which point Duaniac switched to guitar and Satanael left the band. That is where we are now.
2. Hows the scene at Ohio, is it very big, are there plenty of metalheads?
-The scene here is OK at best, years ago it was much larger than it is now, but I am sure most places are like that. But even so we have plenty of bands here: Blood Coven, Decrepit, Soulless, Nunslaughter, Crucified Mortals, Midnight--plenty of good bands to support.
3. Since your first demo up to your last Full Length (For Rats and Plague) do you notice any change musically speaking? I mean, is it the same sound in the band in your personal point of view?
-Definitely, i notice some changes. Mainly, our drummer was very young and new to the scene when we started out, i think he has made the sound thicker with each release, otherwise, we have stayed pretty true to our original sound of raw chaos.
4. Why choosing black death metal?
-This is the music i have always listened to. i started in the early 80's with thrash and kept getting into more and more underground music, plus i was into the occult and satanism for even longer, so it an extension of me and the rest of the members in manticore.
5. Besides metal music what other music do you like?
-I am pretty closed minded when it comes to music. We all listen to metal, everything from Sabbath to Morbosidad, but it is always metal.
6. At the time you are composing a new song, who is the one that bring the main idea of the song, or do you all participate on it?
-All of us bring in ideas for new songs, usually what happens is, at practice someone starts playing something that grabs everyones attention, from there we work out the drums and start writing, usually songs come really fast this way.
7. What would be the main musical references in Manticore?
-I don't know that there would be any more influential than any others, maybe early samael, archgoat, hellhammer, venom, the wrangler is much more into old cannibal corpse, terrorizer, things like this so anything that is extreme has influenced us in one way or another.
8. Hows been the relation with Hells Head Bangers Records? Tell us a bit about it.
-The guys at HHR have been great... we have known them since before they started the label as they live about an hour away from us. They are some of the most dedicated, supportive, hard-working guys you will ever find in the underground. We have never had any issues about anything with them, anything we want to do, they do what they can to help us out, it is nice to have support from a label.
9. Where does the lyric theme come from? Why having this topics in lyrics?
-The lyrics reflect our feelings and thoughts on life and religion, i have always hated organized religion since i was young as i feel it is just a tool to control the weak and feeble. This has been something i have always opposed and mocked, so it is just a natural progression for it to be a main topic of ours.
10. Is there any other metal bands in Lakewood?
-Lakewood is actually next to Cleveland, so it is all the same for the most part.
11. What are your plans in the near future?
-Right now we are gearing up to play 4 shows in Mexico with Morbosidad, Obeisance and Thornspawn from March 26-29, after that we are playing a couple other shows (Nashville, TN and Detroit, MI) and hitting the studio some time soon after. We are planning on a new full-length, as well as a couple of splits that are in the planning stages right now.
12. Anything you wanna add?
-That covers it all i think. thanks for the interview and for spreading our plague.
13.- For last, what do you expect from the Mexican M-etalheads, do you hear something about Mexican crowd?
Duaniac has toured Mexico before(with Incantation back in 94-95?) he has said to expect the best(or worst!!!!!) all i know is i expect the mexican hordes to be sicker than the fucks in germany (who are fucking dedicated sick drunk bastards!!!!!----hails!!!) as long as we are brought our goat nightly we shall be fine, we will scavenge our rats and unleash our plague upon mexico finally, we await the bloodbath!!!!

The Seedbed Of Evil: Tombstoners (Mexico)
From Tijuana this guys comes with a Old School Death Metal, i can hear Death Metal influences like Grotesque, Merciless, Nirvana 2002 or Carnage; deep and obscures riffs mixing with slow and fast tempos, the voice is a classic swedish style i think, raw, deep and aggressive. The songs in their myspace profile are great, clean and vintage sound, nothing ultra technical polished clean stuff, this friday they will play with the mighty Hacavitz. If you like a raw and powerful sound in Death Metal, this guys are a good option to hear.

Interview: Nekromantheon (Norway)
This is the interview with Arse, Sindre and Kick.
1.- Hey how are you guys, we understand that a few members of Nekromantheon also play in Obliteration, can you tell us the history of the band?
-Arse: Me and Sindre started out playing in Obliteration, and I started a side project together with Kick in 2004.
Sindre joined as on the bass later on, together with Glenn "The Beef" from the local punk band RABALDER on vocals.
Nekromantheon was formed, and our mission was to play real thrash, the way of the old gods. In 2008 we gave "The Beef" the BOOT, because on every show we do we get a case of beer. As we all know, a case divided by four is less beer than a case divided by three. LESS IS MORE!
2.- How do you distribute your time for Obliteration and Nekromantheon?
-Arse, Sindre: In the beginning Obliteration was of course the main priority because of the record deal with Tyrant Syndicate, but later on things are getting more equal. We distribute our time depending on upcoming gigs, recordings etc, so there's practically always time for both bands.
3.- When you go out on tour, the band go with Obliteration or do you have your own shows?
-Kick: We do have our own shows, but of course it's cheaper to book both bands. If Obliteration is playing, you only need one more person to have a complete new band, hehe.
4.- What is the topic in your lyrics?
-Kick: The lyrics are mainly based on ancient Greek mythology, and we're hoping to get through some messages in there.
But of course, sometimes the alcohol takes command, and lyrics end up beeing about terror and beer. UGH!
5.- All of you participate in a composition or one of you takes the initiative?
-Kick: Arse or Sindre usually makes the riffs, and we set up the arrangements together.
I've been doing most of the lyrics, but Sindre and Kristian from Obliteration has been helping as I've been too drunk to produce anything worth writing down for a while.
6.- Can you write 3 bands that define Nekromantheon sound?
-Dark Angel (Darkness Descends)
Sepultura (Schizophrenia)
Slayer (Hell Awaits)
We took the liberty to write down the albums as well, so that people don't think we're into the ROOTS BLOODY ROOTS album, haha!
7.- Do you have any demo or do you directly recorded your EP We´re Rotting?
-Arse: We recorded a couple of demos that we never distributed in 2005.
The "We're Rotting" EP was actually meant to be a demo, but got picked up by Stoy Records and released as a MCD, as we we're very satisfied with both the sound and songs.
8.- How big is the Thrash Metal scene in Norway, is there too many Thrash bands?
-Kick: Of course there is! Everybody (including us!) is playing thrash nowadays.
There are of course some "legends" in the Norwegian thrash scene, such as Aura Noir, Infernö and Audiopain, but smaller bands like Deathhammer, Ghoul Cult, Repellent and Black Magic are really great bands that are worth checking out!
9.- How much time did you took to have ready the EP songs and recording?
- Arse: The songs for the EP we're made between 2004 and 2006, as we weren't really giving the band that much attention in the beginning.
When we went in the studio, it was all recorded and mixed in about a weekend. We record and mix all of our own stuff, so we always get the perfect result! HAHA
10.- How was the contact with Abigail for the split Speed and Spikes Vol. III?
-Kick: We have actually never been in contact with Abigail, unfortunately. Relapse contacted both bands over Myspace,
and after a while the 7"'s arrived in my mailbox. I'm a big fan of Abigail, and I'm very happy with the split.
But a split GIG would be even better, so if you crazy japanese bastards read this you should get in touch!
11.- When can we expect a Full Length album?
-Sindre: We're actually recording the vocals RIGHT NOW, so hopefully it won't take too long. It should be out this summer,
if we can find someone to release the piece of shit! We're also releasing a split 7" with Audiopain pretty soon, which is gonna kick ass on both sides! (of the ass, naturally)
12.- Anything to say?
Sindre: Check out CORRUPT from Sweden and SALUTE from UK!
Arse: Check out BASTARDATOR from Canada!
Kick: Check out MY ASS! HAH!

The Seedbed of Evil: Riotor (Canada)
Riotor is a Thrash Metal band from Quebec, Canada. They play an aggressive and violent Thrash Metal (like must be). I already listen the songs from their Myspace profile, and they remind me to Sacrifice in the "Torment of Fire" era and little bit of Black/Thrash bands like Desaster or Nocturnal, great riffs, the vocals blow me away! (a little touch of Mille Petrozza style). Without doubt they are one of the best emerging Thrash metal bands from Canada.
Riotor are:
Ismarevil (Vocals)
Kevinator (Guitars)
Gabrihell (Guitars)
Mikalcoolic (Bass)
Stefanatik (Drums)

Vile
VILE's founding member and songwriter Colin Davis has announced the unveiling of his own record label, Ninth Underworld Records. The label's first release will be the as-yet untitled 4th album from the extreme Metal band VILE. Re-mixed and re-mastered releases of past VILE offerings will follow shortly afterwards in applicable territories. Davis released an official statement regarding his reasons for this new endeavor. “After an extensive and unsatisfying search for a new label partner for VILE, I realized that the universe was making a clear statement to me. It was not only in the best interests of the band and myself, but it was in the best interests of the extreme Metal world as a whole, that I do this. We are leaving the time of centralized power and the music industry is vastly affected. Now is the time for independent bands and entrepreneurs to take control of their own musical destiny. I feel that I can do this job with more care and more intent than anybody else. True, I do not have the industry connections or money that a big label has, but I can focus clearly and constantly exactly where I need to and that is what will make this label work.” VILE's European street team leader Kevin Rymen of Belgium has partnered up with Davis and is hard at work establishing industry contacts and business partners. Ninth Underworld is seeking distribution options in all countries and territories as well as possible licensing deals. Interested parties may contact Colin Davis or Kevin Rymen through the label's Myspace page.

Exumer
German Thrashers EXUMER are confirmed to play their first-ever live show in Greece. The band will head out to Athens / Greece on April 25, one day after appearing at this year's "Keep It True Festival" on April 24, 2009. EXUMER will headline the show in Athens, alongside other Greek Thrash Metal support acts. The band has also added one more club show in Den Haag / Holland to their itinerary, which is scheduled to take place on April 23, 2009. In other news EXUMER has completed their permanent line-up and has added German drummer J.P. Rapp to their roster. Mem V. Stein: "It has been absolutely amazing to receive this invitation to play in Greece, especially since it was not something we had planned. We are also so fortunate to have our new and permanent drummer J.P. with us, who will also be playing drums on our new demo we are going to record in April during our time in Europe. J.P. was somewhat of a legend when we were growing up. He was the first guy from our area in Germany we knew to perfect Thrash drumming as we know it now."

Interview: Evil Army
This is the Interview with this crazy bastards, EVIL ARMY!!
1.- Could you tell us a litlle about the history of the band?
-WE'VE BEEN A BAND SINCE 2003. WE HAVE A SELF TITLED FULL LENGTH ALBUM, UNDER ATTACK 7", CONQUER HUMAN LIFE 7", AND A SPLIT 7".
2.- How is the extreme music scene in Memphis?
-THERE AREN'T MANY METAL BANDS IN MEMPHIS. WE'RE ONE OF VERY FEW METAL BANDS IN MEMPHIS. THERE AREN'T ANY OTHER BANDS HERE PLAYING THRASH METAL. I WISH THERE WERE MORE METAL BANDS HERE SO WE COULD GET SOME GOOD SHOWS GOING IN THIS FUCKING PLACE.
3.- You have a hard influence of hardcore and punk music, why do you choose combinate with Thrash Metal?
-I REALLY DON'T HAVE A HARDCORE OR PUNK INFLUNCE AT ALL. I'VE NEVER BEEN INTO THOSE 2 STYLES OF MUSIC. FOR SOME REASON OUR SONGS CAME OUT SOUNDING THE WAY THEY DO, BUT I NEVER TRIED TO PUT PUNK AND HARDCORE INTO OUR MUSIC. OLD SLAYER AND METALLICA ARE OUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES. WE GET COMPARED TO BANDS I'VE NEVER HEARD OF ALL THE TIME.
4.- Who are your main influences to create music?
-BATHORY, SLAYER, DARKTHRONE, AND METALLICA.
5.- Whit who worked for the split album with Bury The Living?
-A SMALL LABEL IN MEMPHIS RELEASED THAT 7".
6.- How was the contact with Get Revenge Records and what other bands have Get Revenge Records?
-THE DUDE FROM GET REVENGE GOT A HOLD OF OUR 7"s AND CONTACTED ME AND ASKED TO RELEASE OUR FULL LENGTH. I DON'T KNOW ANY OTHER BANDS ON THE LABEL.
7.- In your debut album you worked with Get Revenge, why do you decide re-release the album with HellS Headbangers?
-HELLS HEADBANGERS IS A METAL LABEL AND GET REVENGE IS MORE PUNK, SO IT MADE MORE SINCE TO HAVE HELLS HEADBANGERS RE-RELEASE IT TO A METAL AUDIENCE.
8.- Hells Headbangers have more benefits for you? Maybe work with this guys open some gates for you?
-ITS COOL TO HAVE PEOPLE OF ALL STYLES OF MUSIC TO LIKE OUR BAND BECAUSE I WANT EVERYONE TO LIKE OUR SHIT, BUT WE'RE A METAL BAND SO I'M SURE HELL'S HEADBANGERS WILL PUSH OUR RECORD TO A LOT MORE METALHEADS.
9.- Why did you decide make a cover of Bathory in your EP Under Attack?
-I'M NOT REAL BIG ON DOING COVERS, BUT I THINK WE DO A GOOD VERSION OF IT AND MAKE IT OUR OWN. THERE'S NO SINCE DOING A COVER SONG IF YOU'RE NOT GONNA PUT YOUR STAMP ON IT.
10.- How is a normal gig of Evil Army?
-MOST OF THE TIME THERE'S A LOT OF PEOPLE MOSHING AND YELLING THEIR ASSES OFF.
11.- Could you recomend us some killer bands from Memphis?
-THE REATARDS.
12.- Do you have some important plans for this 2009, maybe a tour included Mexico Jaja.
-WE'RE ABOUT TO GO ON A U.S. TOUR WITH DOWN. WHEN WE GET BACK FROM THAT WE'RE GOING TO RECORD OUR NEXT FULL LENGTH. HOPEFULLY WE'LL MAKE IT DOWN TO MEXICO SOMETIME SOON.
13.- Any to add or ask?
-WE JUST GOT OUR FULL LENGTH CD REPRESSED AND PEOPLE CAN CONTACT ME AT MYSPACE. COM/EVILARMY TO GET A COPY OF THAT, OUR UNDER ATTACK 7", OR AN EVIL ARMY T-SHIRT.

Interview: Evilheart (Mexico)
This is the interview with Rodolfo Rogers, drummer of the crazy Deathmetallers Evilheart, enjoy!
1.- Can you introduce Evilheart to us speaking a little bit about its history?
-Evilheart was formed in Culiacan, Sinaloa in 1999, we have a demo "Summoned To War" (2001) and 2 albums "Dark In Glory" (2004) y "Storm Of Annihilation" (2007) We start playing a melodic black metal en STW, then we adopt an hybrid sound (black death) in DIG and SOA its pure death metal. We have played with Dimmu Borgir, Deicide, Malevolent Creation, Amon Amarth, Behemoth, Hacavitz, Disgorge, among others…...
2.- How hard was to consolidate as a band coming from Sinaloa, do you find too many obstacles at the time you search for playing or recording?
-To get shows it´s really a bitch, we are at 20 hours distance from Mexico City, Monterrey and Tijuana, so you can inagine how hard it is for us! Plenty of times they prefer to hire cheap and horrible bands, in recording matters we have learned from the mistakes we have done, that is why the sound of each album has gone just better and better.
3.- You record your own albums?
-Yes man! We auto produce our recordings and we will be like that until a good record deal appears.
4.- Have you had any approach to any label?
-An european label offered a chance but we dont agree with the terms, mexican labels have offered distribution, but not production and in general terms they do not invest money in productions as we invested in SOA.
5.- Musically speaking i think in SOA the sound is very strong and rough, do you think death metal is what fitted more to the band?
Yes definitely, and the next album will be in the same vain…fast and aggressive.
6.- Who are your main influences musically, i know each of you have different references but any band that you have in commun? I must say that you make me remember Pestilence in the Testimony of the Ancients.
-Personally Morbid Angel is my main influence, and as a band we got Morbid Angel, Behemoth, Vader, Dissection, Malevolent Creation, etc…
7.- What is your opinion about Pete Sandoval?
-It is my main influence as a drummer, i,ve seen him live and his execution is spectacular, i also await the new Morbid Angel album, i hope it will be better than Heretic, in terms of production and composing matters.
8.- Now that you have told me of your influences, how was playing with Malevolent Creation, Deicide and Behemoth, being a fundamental part of Metal?
-For me, was an incredible experience along when Phil Fasciana of Malevolent Creation get up the stage with his Evilheart t-shirt that we gave him, and i mean, we do not ask him to wear it and see him with the t shirt was even better.
Also was a great honor to play with Behemoth and Deicide and we hope in a near future we´ll share the stage with them again!
9.- How is the process of composition in Evilheart?
-Adrian the guitar player, makes the riffs in his house i make drum rythms in mine, then in the rehearsal we incorporate the guitar and drums, and we all have the task to work it hard until it is complete; finally between Jorge (vocals) and me we make the lyrics and that is how lyrics fit perfectly in the song.
10.- Speaking about lyrics can you tell us a bit about "Oath of Apostasy"?
-"Oath of Apostasy" is about this individual that quit his faith for considering all being a product of a manipulation, is an anti religious track merely speaking, i think no one needs to believe in ficticious matters as religion to conquer his goals or ideals.
11.- What can we expect from Evilheart in this year?
-As i said before there is too much struggle playing in shows, we expect that some shows will be confirmed and also work in the next album to be recorded in 2010 it will be a conceptual album, also we are considering working with Mana Studios for the production and with Niklas Sundin in the art department.
12.- How was contacting Mana Studios and how is the relationship with them?
-We contact them via e mail we tell them about SOA and that we wish to have a serious and first level production, and they agree to work with us.
Brian Elliot was the audio engineer and who made the master, he was very accesible at all time, we are still in contact and we definitelly work with him in the next album. Ia m sure that will be brutal!
Well dedicate all 2009 in pre production and composition.
13.- Hows the scene at Sinaloa?
-Well, a lot of bands had emerge, but very few take it seriously, they do not worry to have a recording quality, many of them desintegrate without having a demo and so, and is very sad cause there is talent but not recording.
14.- Speaking about this, what would make the mexican scene stronger and important like the Brazilian scene?
-Personally, if bands worry to have more recording quality that would help to have a stronger and competitive scene, so people put more attention to the national scene and there will be more support.
15. Would you like to tell something to the promotors in DF, Monterrey so we can have you here?
-We have been to Monterrey in several ocasions, last one in May 2008 with Behemoth, unfortunately we never had gone to D.F. cause we are very far away but hopefully in this year we are going there…we are desperate to rock in there!
16.- Anything you wanna add?
-Thank you very much for this interview and we invite all people and organizers to listen some tracks in SOA at www.myspace.com/evilheartofficial and we hope there will be plenty of shows in this 2009 and meanwhile we will be composing our next album and we hope too making a good deal to edit it, stay metal!!!!!

"We have 2 new shows coming up. The first one is in Växjö (Sweden)on March 27, where we haven't played since 1995, so we hope to fill Kaskaded in Folkets Park to the maximum. The next show after that will be in Germany on the Kings of Black Metal Festival, together with friends Watain, Mayhem and Dark Funeral among others. That massacre will be held in Giessen at Hessenhallen on April 18.
"From the studio, we can report that all drums, guitars, lead guitars and the bass have now been recorded and tomorrow it's time for the demonic vocals to be recorded. As you may already have read on several music news pages and net magazines, the title of the new beast will be "Death To All". The album will be released on April 27. More info will follow..."

Forbidden Posts Update On New Material
Bay Area thrash legends Forbidden has posted the following message online regarding the bands reunion album:
"Hey All,
Time for a quick news bit about what's upcoming. We're going to be laying down some tracks on a couple of new Forbidden tunes next week with Tim Narducci co-producing it with the band. We've been working on a gang of new material for a few months and we wanted to get the first taste out as soon as we could find the time. It's important for us to let our fans (who may be the most patient in the world!) in on what we've been at this whole time. We can tell you only this much....it's KILLER! Tim's going to do a great job of capturing our new energy and we're stoked as Hell!
"It's been great working with the other guys this closely again. There is still so much more work to be done! The thing we all realize is, it's best to take our time and not rush the stuff. That would be a dis-service to the ones who have been waiting. It's funny, so many opinions are thrown at us weekly about what the material 'should' sound like. The fact is- it's taking on a life of it's own. We can never really go in the Way Back Machine and sound just like the kids that recorded Forbidden Evil. As cool as that record was, we would be regressing a bit to do such a thing. This stuff is more in the vein as Twisted Into Form with our experiences over the last 20 years wrapped into it. Heavy, Melodic, Thrashy, Technical , Forbidden!!! It's a blast.
"I can also tell you that Mark and Steve are doing fantastic work. Most of the material was written like the old Forbidden. Started with Guitar and Drums with skeleton arrangements. Mark has done nothing but impress me with his ideas and input. He's got a lot to offer and he knows that he needs to deliver. Those are still mighty big shoes to fill with Paul and Steve playing on the previous albums.
"Steve Smyth has been great to work with as well! As a few of you may know, Steve lives in London but comes back to the Bay often. He was here last month. But I think Forbidden can get a endorsement from Skype, because Steve and I have been working on it so much since he's gone home. You get a ton done for free with no gas money spent! We go through all the details and it's easy. Especially when there is a great chemistry within our communication. I think all of the guitar geeks(like us) are going to be blown the fuck away! We have some cool shit in store for you.
"Last thing here...Mark and I are recording with Hank Shermann's Demonica starting this week. That stuff is so F'n cool! Hanks been working hard on it for a while and now we're going to lay down the Drums and Solo's here in Livermore. With Tim and Brad Barth from SpiralArms engineering it. Then we send it back to Hank and he'll put the finishing touches on it, then Dave Otero will mix it. Should be finished sometime in early May. Keep your eye out for the Demonica. It's some ripping old school thrash written by Hank himself. We're all honored just to be asked to be a part of it.
How cool is that?
